XXV. Roma, the third

Captain’s Log: Tuesday, 8 August

Distance: 29km by bicycle and around 7.5 by foot

In the morning, well, before midday, we got our bicycles, without bags of course, and visited the Via Appia Antica. I have to admit, I mostly wanted to go there because I wanted to find a specific stone pile again. Over five years ago, I have been in Rome already with the school for one week, and there has been this, kinda huge, stone pile at the side of the road. We walked there, and I thought, I want to climb that. So I asked, not very serious though, our professor, if I was allowed to climb up there. To my surprise he looked at it and agreed while saying that he wanted to climb up there as well. So the whole group had a rest there, while out professor, me, and some other pupils climbed up this stone pile.

And look, what I have found.

Unfortunately I do not have the picture from five years ago on my phone now, but I think, it is pretty much the same picture. I kinda feel like a cat now, I see something high I could climb up, and I climb it up.

So, mission accomplished, I would say. We then drove back and to the west of the city, up a hill to some fountain and a park. The view was quite amazing.

We passed the Circo Massimo as well, but I remembered then that there was not much left of it anymore.

Due the heat and all the uphills and downhills we had to drive, we were really tired already. It has been after 5pm as well, so we drove back to the hostel, to get ready for getting Pizza somewhere.

On our way there I had to walk on paths from five years ago again. We went past some sort of Piazza with ruins, and I remembered this place, since our accommodation with the school journey had been there somewhere. We went through some smaller roads, but we did not find it. I did not want to search any further because we both have been hungry already. But after dinner we looked for it again.

I am really surprised of myself that I was able to find the entrance and the location again.

We then walked around a bit more, had a rest beside the Musei Capitolini, and finally walked back to the hostel.

I decided to stay one night longer than planned. The reason is simple. Tomorrow evening there will be a training of the martial art I am doing in Vienna. The same martial art has a dojo, a training room, here in Rome as well, since it is an international organisation, and I decided to join the training tomorrow evening.
