VIII. Just keep swimming

Captain’s Log: Monday, 10 June 2019

Distance: Vevey (08:45) – Genève (16:30), 89km

Accommodation: Airbnb (a bed!!!!!)

Weather: Even more rain

Today’s note to myself: You can do zat!

I started the day again with rain and breakfast inside my tent instead of outside at the lake. Nothing got really dry during the night, so I tried to ignore everything and just keep going.

Once I was on the road again, it was not really a problem anymore. Of course my shoes were completely soaked since these rain protection thingys for my shoes did not dry either and they were not much of a protection anymore in this permanent rain.

So, I was basically swimming the way alongside the lake without actually being in the lake. I was mostly driving on the main road because I was not in the mood of taking longer distances for the beauty of nature, but I think, if the weather would have been better, the actual bicycling route must be quite beautiful.

Since I had problems charging my phone yesterday because it got all wet (no worries, it dried and then it charged just as fine as ever), I did not take any pictures with it today as I did not want to risk that again.

Well, you could have a picture of my dinner later that day.

It’s Nüdeli!

At some point I tried to cheer myself up with quotes from Raumschiff Surprise and the outtakes from it. It worked surprisingly well, I can only recommend that. If you are not having a good day, just say out loud “Ich geh mit meinem Schnupperradar auf Schnupperkurs!”, and I promise you will feel a lot better.

No, I’m not getting crazy already, talking to myself on my bike, don’t worry.

Anyway, once I reached Genève, I rode around searching for the hostel I looked up previously, which was very good hidden. But I found it, only to get told that the reception was closed today because of the holiday.

Luckily for me, I saw a Starbucks (which has free WiFi) on my search for the hostel, so I went back there and looked up other possibilities for spending the night with a nice hot chocolate.

I already thought, I had to spend the night on a camping ground again, even though it was still raining and I was soaking wet, and I really did not want to sleep in my tent like that. But I found an Airbnb, which was booked out, except for the one night today. I was indeed pretty lucky finding that, and it was even in the middle of the city and not that expensive.

Now I am looking forward sleeping in a bed, with everything being able to dry for once. Not that it is of any use, since I think it’s going to rain again tomorrow. But one advantage does that sort of weather have indeed; I can appreciate the sunny days even more!
