XXXIII. I’m missing the sea already

Captain’s Log: Friday, 5 July 2019

Distance: Peniscola (09:00) – Moncofa (16:45), 99km

Accommodation: Camping Playa Costa De Levante

Weather: Sun

Today’s note to myself: Apparently resting keeps the motivation high.

After another nice breakfast at the beach, I continued my way south. I knew, I had a National Park in front of me, where I had two ways I could go. Either following the main road, which would not be at the coast, or I would risk the road at the cost, without knowing if it even was a normal road.

Since I am leaving the coast after Valencia, I decided for the second one, and even though it could not really be called a “road” at dome points, I did not regret the decision.

In the beginning I had to push a short steep piece up, and then the gravel road started, but the view was just amazing.

I also met a few mountain bikes and some signs on my way, so apparently it is also meant for bicycles, but at some points, even though I was riding my bike on a more or less horizontally way, I would have been faster if I had walked. I had to go so slow and careful, and always hoping that nothing got damaged in the process of getting through there.

Luckily, nothing happened.

After about 20km I reached the end of the National Park and the end of that gravel road. From there on I followed the cost again, sometimes on a parallel road, sometimes on the esplanade. And at some point I found the Eurovelo 8 again, which led on a Via Verde, a way for bicyclists and pedestrians. The view on that one was very nice as well.

Since the sun and my motivation were still high, and due the extra bicycle ways, I was faster than I thought, and I found a camping ground south of Castellón, where I actually had planned to stay first. But this way I might have more time tomorrow in Valencia, when I am arriving earlier.

The camping ground is, of course, right at the coast, where I sat down for earing and playing Ukulele again. At least, here are basically no other people around.
