Finally a good meal

Captain’s Log: Monday, 4 July 2022
Distance: 09:30 – 19:45, 88km
Accommodation: Koblenz, Rhein-Camping Waldshut
Weather: couldy and rainy
Today’s epiphany: next tour will be with an e-bike

Soo, I made it to Koblenz today, which was a little further than I planned. However, since there were no open or reachable camping grounds earlier, I kinda had to keep going.

Most of the route today was not actually at the river, but the bits that were, were really nice! Also, I had to push up my bike at some points, when the route was leading away from the river, which makes those e-bikes, which I see literally everywhere by now (seriously, no other cyclist with bags has a normal bike anymore), those e-bikes seem friendlier every hill I have to conquer. Mayhe next time I will finally give up and use one of those, just to avoid pushing my bike.

Anyway, there is not a lot to tell from yesterday, otherwise that it was Sunday and I had hardly anything to eat with me. I was looking forward to a pizza or something similar at the campground, which mostly have restaurants. However, when I got there the reception was closed (therefore no wifi) and the restaurant was closed.

Since I was hungry and I had to eat something I went into the town, looking for a restaurant. But what dreadful view for my eyes and my stomage! Restaurants all closed! But wait, I heard something, and see there, one still has open and many guests! Even though the prices where abnormally high, and they had hardly anything else than fish, I got an omelette. My stomage and wallet were not very happy, but what else was I supposed to do?

Anyway, today, after I paid at the reception and got a bit of wifi, I continued and stopped at the first supermarket I saw. I got enough food and stuff for the camping cooker, which I have, so at least a situation like this will not happen again.

But another one should happen apparently. You know, the main things someone needs always, food, shelter, water? Well, yesterday I sort of failed the first one, and today I almost failed the second one. I needed to continue riding my bike, even though I was quite exhausted already, because there were no campgrounds or other hostels in sight. And without Internet, I was a bit lost.B

But when I finally reached one, in the evening, exhausted and very hungry, the reception was closed. I saw myself already camping somewhere in the wild, until one nice lady, who seemed to be here quite often, told me to just put up camp and pay tomorrow. Which I immediately did. But at least the wifi password was on a sign somewhere.

So, shelter provided for, I was still hungry and guess what, the campground restaurant was closed! However, this time I was able to cook myself something on the camping cooker, and let me say, this was the best meal I ever had. Well, pasta with pesto, but still!

Tomorrow I will also have breakfast now, so I guess im finally set and ready to start the tour! Well, 2 days too late but better late than never.

Do not forget, that with an e-bike you will reach perhaps 80-90 kilometers and if you are somewhere you can not load the battery during the night, it will be a very, very, very hard day afterwards. Cycling an e-bike without battery is way harder, then pushing your bike up to the hill sometimes. 😉

Also dass es so schwierig ist, was zu essen zu bekommen 🙈.
Aber die selbstgemachten Spaghetti vom Campingkocher sind eh die besten 🥰.

    E-Bike? Ernsthaft? 🤣
    Aber ich verstehe es….😊

Lass dir dein Frühstück schmecken und gute Weiterfahrt 😘

I love the little typos 🙂
Also, what Wolfgang said, make sure all those camping grounds have loading stations before you get a e-bike.
    But I feel you.
