I’m not sure which is better; driving in the sun with 38°C or in the rain with 20°C. But I think, it’s both equally not very nice. But still not as bad as hills.

Today’s travel data:

Date: Wednesday, 13 July

Way: Sankt Leonhard am Walde – Linz

Distance: 102km

Time: 08:30 – 17:00

Weather: cloudy and rainy

I spent some vey nice days in the house with my cousins, my brother and a friend of him. We went to the Waidhofner Bad, which was connected to a couple of memories from when we were children, just like the house. The next day we have been quite lazy, but what else could we have done, when it was rainy and windy the whole day?

I started a bit later this day because the weather was quite bad. And to be honest, it doesn’t motivate to get up while it looks cold and wet outside and you know that you have to drive with the bicycle over hills…

However, I got up at least and, which was very nice, I got my baggage brought up the hill coming from the house. Thank you again for that, Boris! It does indeed make a difference, if you have to drive up with or without 15-20kg more on your bike.

Unfortunately due the wet streets I wasn’t able to drive down the hills as fast as I could have.

Around 10:30 I arrived in Amstetten, where I met up with my friend and study collegue Sarah. From there we took the Danubian Bicycle Route to her house close to Linz. Of course after we reach the Danube. Amstetten isn’t located at the Danube. Just saying for all those, who have as much knowledge of Geography as me. But I’m learning!

Except for some hills and cloudy weather there wasn’t much worth to talk about. But, at some point, it started to rain. Not the small few raindrops we already got once in a while, but really heavy rain.

I loved all the situations, when other bicyclists were passing us, and we just looked at each other, and I always had to grin because we all were fucked together. So, it wasn’t only bad.

The way till Linz took its time. We thought about stopping there then and getting something to eat, but we have been so close to Sarah’s home, so we decided, we would get this as well. That was funny then.

We had to find the Kraftwerk in Ottensheim, for passing the Danube, but the street we took seemed to get us right past it. But we found it at least, both very tired already.

At her place we made ourselves something to eat and decided it would be time for a Netflix Evening. With Iron Man 1 & 2 we both have been very happy.

Things I have learned from today?

Even if it’s raining, apparently I still need to put sun creme on. I got a light sun burn from a short sequence of sunshine. It wasn’t even real sunshine, there have been coulds the whole day, some of them were just thinner than the others. Sarah called me Vampire after this. Seems quite fitting.

Rain isn’t too bad, if the temperatures aren’t that low.
