Captain\u2019s Log: Tuesday, 3 April 2018<\/p>\n

Accommodation: Ciak Hostel, Rome<\/p>\n

Distance: Around Rome<\/p>\n

Weather: warm in the sun, cold in the wind<\/p>\n

The day started as usual, maybe a bit later. But we were both excited, since we were going into the Colosseum today.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Funny thing was, we were able to skip the line since we had bought the RomaPass a couple of days ago. But we still had to wait a little bit at the security checks, but not as long as these poor souls behind there.<\/p>\n

Finally we were in.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Galileo, what are you doing up there? Did you not see the sign??<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Unbelievable…<\/p>\n

Anyway, we went up as well, and it was even more impressive than I remember it from, like, 6 years ago, when I was in there with the school.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I am still fascinated by the whole way of how they built it.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

By the way, there have been a lot less people there today than on the weekend, so it got a little bit better.<\/p>\n

Eventually we had to get out at some point again.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Our next stop was at the Altare della Patria, where we wanted to go up to the top.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It was so incredible, being that close to it, but the view from the roof was the best over Rome I have ever seen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

And since I had that specific T-shirt on…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Afterwards, once we managed to get off that roof again, because we both did not want to leave, we went to the Musei Capitolini, which was just around the corner.<\/p>\n

Beside impressive art and sculptures, it had amazing rooms as well.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I actually thought about putting Galileo to the twins for the picture, but there were too many other people in the room who might not have thought that this would be funny…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But I could put him here, since no one was looking.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Some art I am just not able to understand. Why do you make a statue of someone who is clinging to his bottle?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Whatever, it was still impressive though. I am still wondering how they were able to carve the stone like that, and I mean all of the statues. Or even the paintings, there were paintings, like 5 metres tall? How do you draw such a big picture, with the people still being in the right proportions?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the end, Galileo made a new friend.<\/p>\n

Once we were outside again, it was early evening already. We paid a visit to a supermarket on our way home, where we cooked dinner again.<\/p>\n

Even if we mostly spend our evenings in the hostel, I would still say that we are quite productive. At least our hurting feet tell us that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
