Captain’s Log: Thursday, 3 August
Distance: Casciano – Radicofani, 68km
The morning has been quite nice, there have been a few clouds at the sky, the firat 20km were downill, and there has not been a lot of sun at all. Even the temperatures were acceptable. But once we started driving at the main road through the valley, which fortunately did not have a lot of traffic, the clouds vanished and the heat started again. It kind of felt like travelling through a desert.
I mean, even the colour of the ground had almost the same as sand due the dryness.
Some hills, almost no shadows, and one road with a few cars, and the sun.
Anyway, at some point we reached the street, which led us away from the main road and again up a hill to the next hostel, since there have not been any camping grounds close by. So yes, I had to push up my bicycle again through the midday and afternoon sun. But I had enough water with me. And the view was eventually worth it.
The hostel we got to was actually a hostel for all those hikers, who walk the Via Francigena, so it it like a pilgrim’s hostel, very basic, very cheap, but has everything you need.
One tragic thing happened though. I have crocheted a bracelet out of wool around my left ankle, around 2 and a half years ago, in Sydney, while sitting at the esplanade with view at the Opera House. Since I was not able to take it of, I had it with me for such a long time, every day and night, and now it finally had its last hour.
Goodbye, my dear, your memories will not be lost.

Stück weiter südlich kommt dann ein See! Lago di Bolsena. …hoffentlich ist noch Wasser drin! 😆 Ist der auf eurer Route?
Schade wegen deinem Armband.
