XXVII. The road goes on and on…

Captain’s Log: Thursday, 10 August

Distance: Roma – Ostia – Latina, 104km

Early in the morning, Moritz and I left Rome; he drove northwards, while I drove westwards, since I wanted to reach the coast and follow it down to Pompeii. It seemed like the nicer route to me than some road in the middle again.

The road to Ostia was slightly uncomfortable because it had been a bit narrow and there has been a lot of traffic, but against the clichés, the almost all of the cars were careful and watched out.

The old Ostia Antica I was only able to see from the outside, but since I have been there with the school already, I thought, I would just pass it.

Finally I arrived at the sea. I kinda like these coast towns.

From there I just followed the street side by side the coast. Either the heat wave started slowly to end, or it was indeed a little bit cooler at the coast. Anyway, without hills and with a bit cooler temperatures I was a lot of faster than before. The traffic was not that bad as well.

The scenery changed from beaches full of people and beach umbrellas, to coast towns, and to green or brown vegetation, if the street went away from the coastline a bit.

Maybe the wind, which held these things up, kept the temperatures lower than in the country as well.

There have been quite a lot of camping grounds along the coast, but I thought, I was still able to drive a bit further, so why stop? Which, in the end, led to the 104km all in all. But, the earlier I am in Pompeii, the more time I have there to take a look around.

In the afternoon, I was even able to see some strange things on the sky. I think, I have seen it before, but that must have been a long time ago. I think, you call these strange white stuff… clouds? Like, actual clouds? I already thought, they appear only in stories.

I have to admit, sitting at the sea, alone, after travelling for almost 4 weeks with someone else, is something I have to get used to again now. But I should not get bored, it is way too beautiful for that here.

    Wolken! Yeahh! 😁
