IV. Naples

Captain’s Log: Thursday, 29 March 2018

Accommodation: Hostel of the Sun, Naples

Distance: The old town of Naples

Weather: Clouds and sun, but mostly warm

Right in the beginning for you to know, unfortunately I did not take much pictures today with my phone. I apologise for that, but tomorrow there will be coming more from Rome then.

In the morning, same as ever, except that we shared our breakfast table with the Austrian guy we had played cards with yesterday. He told us about this free walking tour though the old town of Naples, which he would join, and since we wanted to walk around in the city today anyway, we decided to join him.

The walking tour was quite interesting, the guide knew a lot about the buildings and even showed us some places we would have never found without him.

All together we walked around for about 2.5 hours, so we were pretty exhausted afterwards. The guide told us about a very good Pizza place, but since this seemed to be one of the few places every tourist gets recommended, we took a look at the queue outside and decided to look for another place to eat.

Yes, they were all waiting to get inside. Kinda reminded me of the Cafรฉ Central I always pass on my way to the university in Vienna.

Anyway, we found another, also very good place to eat pizza, before we split up again. Jessy and I wanted to visit the National Museum, while the Austrian guy wanted to go to a castle.

The museum was very nice as well, even though they did not have this one statue I was hoping for, a statue of a guy in a fisher net, where the net looks so realistic that you might think it was real once. “Il Disinganno” it is called, for those who are interested. I found out that this statue was actually located somewhere else, in the Capella Sansevero, but when we got there, well…

We told ourselves, we tried, we found the Capella, but since there did not seem to be a movement forward at all, we decided not to go in there, but instead to go back to the hostel for one last evening, since it was late already anyway.

Back in the hostel we relaxed a bit in our room, before enjoying the free pasta again.

And tomorrow we will be on our way up to Rome already!
