Austria. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the bicycle Connen-Neute. It’s six weeks mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldy go where no bicycle has gone before.
Okay, to be honest, Austria is not the final frontier, and I surely won’t dedect new life or civilizations, but it is still going to be an awesome journey.
Today’s travel data:
Way: Vienna – Neulengbach, taking the Donauradweg till Tulln
Distance: about 77km
Time: 08:00 – 14:30
Due the early start, it was not very hot in the beginning, which was quite pleasant. The way along the Danube was very beautiful. Hardly any other bikers or walkers, just the river, blue sky, the sun in the back, my favourite music in my ears, you can say, just perfect.
It was like this all the way till Tulln. There I had to start looking up the way. I thought, it would better to look it up as often as I thought, I would need it, before I get lost. I mean, my sense for orientation is better than it was before, but you can still call it bad.
After cruising around on differtent ways, I found the right one almost quick, another bicycle route southward. It went along fields and small hills, sceneries so typical that every Austrian could have said, “Yep, I’m home.”
I was still quite fit at that moment, surprised by myself, so I didn’t take a break, as intelligent as I am. After leaving Tulln, I had to drive on the road he first time. The cars were quite friendly though, most of them slowed down a bit while passing me. The motorbikers on the other hand.. well, enough of that. No need to say that I was happy to have a bicycle road again. But then, suddenly, the Biker way parallel to the Bundesstraße, stopped. If you were an intelligent being, you would have seen the other bicycle route on the other side of the road, but, being me, I didn’t notice it for the first few kilometres I was driving on the street again. That wouldn’t have been that bad, if it didn’t happened a second time… I definitely need to watch out for signs a bit more.
But I managed to get on a very nice biker road along a small river, that brought me straight down to Neulengbach, and even almost right to the door of the house, where I’m right now.
Things I have learned from today, my first stage? Taking a break if you have the opportunity after driving already over 30 kilometres. You will thank it yourself later. Taking more to eat with you.
That’s not even that much as I thought.
(For all those who are wondering, yes, my bicycle has a name. Connen-Neute is a character of a book series called Truth Series, one of my favourites.)
