VII. A museum

Captain’s Log: Thursday, 16 August 2018

Accommodation: Airbnb in Oslo

Sightseeing Day: More or less Oslo

Weather: Cloudy with a bit of rain

We stared the day off a little bit later today, since we did not have that much to do for today. I have asked a bit around yesterday in the hostel, talking to other people to find out some things we could do. From that information we decided to visit the Ship Museum a little bit outside of the city and then to walk around there to the beach, which apparently was supposed to be very beautiful.

Before we left the accommodation, we had breakfast with the host, who apparently also lives here.

The bus took us over to the museum, which was quite impressive, even though, as I heard, not that impressive as the one in Stockholm. Maybe I need to get there one day as well.

I am still fascinated by the way they build their ships, and how they managed to make them so that they were able to use them to sail to Iceland, but also to sail up rivers to Paris or elsewhere. These ships where also used as graves, the latter for two important women.

After the museum we got ourselves a lumch from the supermarket, before we spotted them on our way to the beach.

There were just Lamas chilling around.

Anyway, we found a really nice spot with no other people around (maybe the weather was a reason for that as well), where we then had lunch.

It was not cold per se, but a bit windy and cloudy. But it did not rain yet, so we were lucky. And the sea was really amazing in this weather.

It has its own special atmosphere when the wind is blowing and the sea is rough.. I should try writing stories again, I have the feeling that the impressions here might have a good influence.

At some point we had to get back to the city again. Since we still had a bit of time left, we decided to have a look at the ski jumping hill.

On the way up we came across an Iron Throne made out of old skis, with Oslo in the back.

The jumping hill itself was very impressive. It seemed so surreal, seeing it in real life, especially without any snow at all. But just being there sort of triggered winter feels.

We actually wanted to get there because we were told that we could have a really nice look down at the city from up there.

Well, that did not work quite as well as we thought. It also started to rain a little bit, so we decided to head back to the city to get something to eat and then to go back to the hostel again.

All in all, it was a good day, since we got out of the city and to the beach as well, even though the weather got worse in the late afternoon. But, since we are going to be in Oslo again before our flight back, maybe we will have better weather then so that we can have a look down at the city then.
